About Us
Our Story
A few years ago, one of our physicians needed an iron infusion because she couldn’t tolerate oral iron. Her ferritin was “normal” at 19, she had fragmented sleep, fatigue and brain fog.
She assumed getting an iron infusion would be easy. It wasn’t.
First referred to a blood specialist, she then waited weeks for the approval to be treated at a hospital-affiliated cancer center. When the time came for her treatment, the experience was impersonal, depressing and stressful from the waiting room to the infusion chair. She was shocked that this is the reality for millions of people needing treatment for a benign condition. (As many as 1 in 3 reproductive-age women are iron deficient.)
She called a colleague who echoed all these concerns after watching her own patients. Patients unable to take iron orally. Patients often waiting months for their infusions. Patients too intimidated by the hospital setting, but yet wanting more medical oversight than at-home or retail IV businesses provide.
They decided to take a leap and build something different.
And so, The Fern took root.
Our Approach

We practice integrative medicine. We don’t just replete your iron, we address the ‘why?’.
Before any infusion, our team reviews your history, your symptoms, and your labs. We work with your existing physicians, communicate with your referring provider after the visit, and treat your iron deficiency as one part of your overall health picture.
If you don’t have a referring provider, our team will see you first for an integrative medical assessment to determine whether an iron infusion is clinically appropriate for you.
Our wellness infusions do not require a prescription or referral but in all cases, our team reviews your intake and health history to confirm that any infusion is appropriate before it is administered.
Our Physicians
Dr. Lesley Michael, DO, PMH-C
Integrative Psychiatrist
Dr. Lesley Michael is a double board-certified psychiatrist in private practice specializing in integrative psychiatry and reproductive mental health, helping patients through every hormonal transition, from puberty to pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause.
Over years of practice, she noticed a pattern others often missed: patients whose depression, anxiety, fatigue or brain fog hadn’t responded to treatment sometimes had an undiagnosed iron deficiency, a gap that, once addressed, could change the whole picture.
The Fern is her answer to that gap.
Dr. Elena Ivanina, DO, MPH
Integrative Gastroenterologist
Dr. Elena Ivanina is a triple board-certified gastroenterologist specializing in digestive health, preventive medicine, and integrative gastroenterology. She is the founder of the Center for Integrative Gut Health, where she combines conventional gastroenterology with nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and evidence-based complementary therapies to help patients achieve lasting digestive wellness.
Throughout her career, Dr. Ivanina has cared for thousands of patients seeking effective, sustainable approaches to digestive health and has spent her career treating patients with conditions that make oral iron absorption nearly impossible – Crohn’s disease, celiac, IBD, and post-surgical GI conditions.
For these patients, IV iron is a vital piece in maintaining their health.
