What Is An Iron Infusion?
An iron infusion delivers iron directly into your bloodstream through an IV, bypassing your digestive system entirely. Unlike iron supplements, which have to be absorbed through your gut (a process that can be slow, unreliable, and often causes side effects like nausea and constipation), an IV infusion delivers iron immediately. Most patients notice a significant improvement in energy, sleep, and mental clarity within a few weeks.
Who is it for?
Iron infusions are appropriate for anyone whose iron stores are depleted and who either cannot tolerate oral iron, cannot absorb it effectively, or needs faster results than supplements can provide.
What is the cost?
Iron infusion starts at $595 per session. Iron sucrose typically requires 3-5 infusions and ferumoxytol 1-2 sessions.
We do not accept insurance and we are a cash-pay practice. This means no prior authorizations, no denials, and no surprise bills. You pay when you book. Superbills available by request.

What products do we use?
We use an FDA-approved IV iron formulation called iron sucrose. It is one of the most widely used. We’ll base it on your clinical needs, history, and treatment goals.
Iron Sucrose
Venofer is iron sucrose, one of the most widely used and well-tolerated IV iron formulations. Most patients require a series of doses to fully replenish their iron stores. Each session takes approximately 30–60 minutes.
ferumoxytol (feraheme)
Ferumoxytol, is an IV iron option available by request after a consultation with our NP. It is given as 510 mg infusions, so many patients complete their iron replacement in two visits. Each visit takes about 45–60 minutes, including time to be watched after the infusion. Your provider will review your history first, including any past reactions to IV iron, to decide if it is right for you.
The Experience
What to expect
Your appointment begins with an exam, history review and vital signs check. Your IV will be placed, and your infusion will run over the prescribed time. You will be monitored throughout by our nursing team. We have full emergency protocols and medical support on site. Most patients read, work, or simply relax during their infusion. We provide water and snacks and make the experience as comfortable as possible. Even VR glasses if you don’t like to watch!
Depending on the type of infusion and your prior history, you may be asked to wait for observation up to 30 minutes following the infusion.
Do I need a referral?
Referred by your doctor: If your physician or NP recommends an iron infusion, simply have them send a referral and recent labs. We will contact you to set up an appointment.
Self-referral: Have recent* labs from an online lab service? You do not need a referral to be seen at The Fern. Self-referred patients will first book an integrative medicine intake to determine if an iron infusion can be ordered. This assessment ensures your infusion is clinically appropriate and safe. If you don’t have current labs, a lab order, review and plan will be part of your work-up.
*Labs must be from the last 30 days.
